Like many a Northsider, I was very excited to see Le Petit Breton open on Drumcondra Road. A french style creperie is always a good idea, and this one looked really nice.

On the morning of my birthday, I was delighted to learn that I was being treated to breakfast at Le Petit Breton. It was a sunny day in Dublin, and as we walked along to the canal, I couldn’t wait to test the menu.

We sat at a table outside, which felt funny after years spent passing that corner on my way home from work or on the bus.

We ordered orange juice and coffees as we studied the menu.

I went for french toast served with bacon and S chose a croque madame, which is a croque monsieur topped with a fried egg.

My french toast came with maple syrup and that lovely streaky bacon which was smoked. The bread was a fairly normal wholemeal sliced pan. It was really tasty.

The croque madame was delicious. The combination of yolky fried egg, cheesey bread and thick ham was a winner.

Although we both ordered small enough items, we left feeling full and satisfied.

Breakfast at Le Petit Breton was the perfect way to start my birthday day.

When Father’s Day rolled around, my dad chose Le Petit Breton when given his pick for a Fathers’ Day meal. We headed there for brunch and this time sat inside. The interior is all white and fresh with little French touches.

My Dad ordered the vegetarian breakfast crepe, which looked amazing. My Mom went for the breakfast crepe. Hers was delicious, and very filling.

My raging sweet tooth made me unable to resist a sweet crepe. I chose L’Hivernale, carmelized apple with cinnamon with salted caramel sauce and almond, but I must have pointed to the wrong one on the menu, because I was brought one with lots of chocolate sauce on it.

I asked the waitress and it turned out to be my mistake, but they offered to bring me the one I wanted. I felt like a bit high maintenance by accepting the offer, but I don’t like chocolate sauce, especially for breakfast, and there was an awful lot of it, so in the end I was glad I did.

I would definitely return to Le Petit Breton for a third time, the food was good and the staff were very nice.
